You are hosting an all-ages shower in the afternoon and want to WOW your guests. You can skip the Alcohol and still have some top-drawer drinks. Leave out the booze and instead focus on interesting presentation and bright fruity combinations with these virgin drink recipes. Have a bit of fun! Here are a few ideas to get you started.
Mint Tea Punch
3 cups boiling water
12 sprigs fresh mint
4 tea bags
1 cup white sugar
1 cup orange juice
1/4 cup lemon juice
5 cups cold water
Orange and lemon slices to garnish
Directions Place the tea bags and mint sprigs into a large pitcher. Pour boiling water over them, and allow to steep for about 8 minutes. Remove and discard the tea bags and mint leaves, squeezing out excess liquid. Stir in sugar until dissolved, then stir in the orange juice and lemon juice. Pour in the cold water. Serve over ice cubes, garnished with orange or lemon slices.
2 (2 liter) bottles ginger ale, chilled
1 (46 fluid ounce) can pineapple juice, chilled
1 (64 fluid ounce) bottle white grape juice, chilled
Directions To make a Flowered Ice Ring: Fill a ring-shaped cake pan to 1/2 with ginger ale. Freeze until partially frozen. At this stage you can place edible flowers, or pieces of fruit around the ring. Fill pan with ginger ale and freeze until solid. Place in punch bowl just before serving. In a large punch bowl, combine 1 bottle ginger ale, pineapple juice and white grape juice.
3 oz lemonade
3 oz iced tea
Pour equal amounts of lemonade and iced tea into a tall glass filled with ice. Stir well
2 oz peach nectar
chilled sparkling cider
Preparation: Pour the peach nectar into a Champagne flute and then slowly add the Cider.
Beach Blanket Bingo
3 oz grapefruit juice
3 oz cranberry juice
lime wedge for garnish
Preparation: Pour the juices into a collins glass filled with ice. Top with soda. Garnish with a lime wedge.
3 oz red cranberry juice
3 oz apple juice
1 oz honey
maraschino cherry for garnish
Preparation:Fill a highball glass with ice cubes. Add the juices and honey to a mixing glass. Stir the ingredients with a barspoon. Pour the contents of the mixing glass into the highball glass. Garnish with a maraschino cherry
1 oz lemon juice
1 oz orange juice
1 oz pineapple juice
2 oz ginger ale
dash of grenadine
pineapple and orange slices for garnish
Preparation: Pour the juices into a cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Shake well. Strain into a chilled collins glass filled with ice. Garnish with the slices of pineapple and/or orange.
2 Oz Lychee Juice
3 oz Pink Grapefruit
¼ fresh lime
2 oz Soda water or lemon-lime Soda
Add ice, lychee juice, pink grapefruit juice and fresh lime juice into a cocktail shaker. Shake sharply and strain into a tall glass filled with ice. Top with soda (to taste), stir to mix and garnish with a fresh lychee skewer.
Frozen Cranberries A great addition to all of these drinks is to add some frozen whole cranberries. They float in the drink, hold their shape, add a bit of colour and keep the drink chilled. Buy a bag in the fresh grocery section during the holidays and use them all year long. Even a simple flute of Ginger Ale will sparkle!
