Do Plantable Seed Favours actually GROW?

Our Wedding Specialist have been asked the question:  Do Plantable Seed Favours actually GROW?

We have been assured by our Canadian Supplier that every batch is checked to ensure that the seeds will sprout and grow.  SO- we know that under ideal circumstances, actual plants are possible.

HOWEVER, the next question is: Can we (and your average Wedding Guest) make it happen?

Plantable Seed Favours are a charming and novel personalized keepsake that can be given out to guests.  The seeds are infused into the paper and create a bumpy organic look and feel.  The Seeds are live and should sprout under ideal circumstances and some will survive to produce flowers but they are not a guaranteed source of showy flowers.

If you prefer the look and feel of the Seed Paper, these are a great favour options for you.  If you are more concerned with the resulting plants then seeds, seedlings or potted plants are a better favour option.

We had an order of Wedding Seed Favour Tags with an error so we used these cards to conduct our “trials”.  (These cards are already two years old so they are not a fresh batch)

Our (very unscientific) Experiments with Seed Paper:

We experimented with these seed cards both at our office, as well as the homes of four employees:

~ When soaked for 5 days in a bright indoor spot, the seeds in the plantable favour tags were swollen and sprouting.

~ When placed on a plate in a pool of water in the sun, these dried out over the weekend and never sprouted.

~ I tried to make them sprout at home. I placed them in a large bowl of water in a bright spot indoors. NOTHING! I checked them every day for a week and finally threw them out as the paper started to dissolve.

~ In our efforts, we did not achieve any successful growth. It was fun to try but you should expect a similar result for your guests.

RESULTS:  Do Plantable Seed Favours actually work?

These may sprout and are enjoyable to watch.  Whether they will survive to maturity and actually blossom is a long shot.  If you want your favour to produce reliable wildflowers, you should consider another means of giving seeds to your guests but these are charming paper keepsakes that will actually sprout.

IN CONCLUSION:

Plantable Seed Favours are a charming and novel personalized keepsake that can be given out to guests.  The seeds are infused into the paper and create a bumpy organic look and feel.  The Seeds are live and should sprout under ideal circumstances and some may survive to produce flowers but they are not a guaranteed source of showy flowers.

If you prefer the look and feel of the Seed Paper, these are a great favour options for you.  If you are more concerned with the resulting plants then seeds, seedlings or potted plants are a better favour option.  This has the potential to produce but it is not a viable way to present your guests with a plant. They are a novel and romantic idea but should not be counted on to produce abundant flowers.

A search on Google indicates a similar success rate with the seed bombs and the homemade seed paper. They are a fun and whimsical craft but plant seedlings or seeds are a more reliable method of giving the gift of GREEN to your guests!

We cannot guarantee that the seed product wedding favours will produce wildflowers. They are a charming scrapbook quality keepsake but not a viable method of planning flowers or herbs.
